#3 It’s not you

It’s Him.

To the times we are busy, proud and achieving…

If it was not for Allah who allowed things to happen, we would not be where we are. Boil down our ego and shrink our hearts in front of The Almighty, for we are nothing compared to Him. We pray that Allah continues to take care of our affairs, and never for a second place them on our hands.

Things that bring us closer to Allah are blessings, no matter if they were ‘bad’ or ‘good’ at face value. However, things that draw us farther from Him are disasters, no matter if they were ‘bad’ or ‘good’ at face value. So evaluate our work, do they shorten or elongate the distance between Allah and us?

Alhamdulillah wa astaghfirullah

#2 Husnuzon: Driving

Bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh!

So today I had multiple spurts of road rage… oops. Nothing physical! Or verbal! If you were wondering… But enough heat to make me muhasabah diri (reflect on myself).

Astaghfirullah, astaghfirullah, astaghfirullah. For all my eye-rolls, frowns, stares, heavy breathing & impatience. For all the bad days I made worse (I might’ve offended someone on the road who already was having a rocky mood – I’ve felt this and it places the ‘perfect’ cherry-on-top).

“Indeed, Allah is with those who patiently endure.” [8:46]

Allah is actually giving you the opportunity to gain some deeds here, hello!

And why do we forget our beloved Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, who had countless instances where becoming impatient was probably justifiable but he could see the bigger picture in the small, temporary things, and so kept his cool. Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad.

So I’ve put together a hotline list of Husnuzon Lines (to ‘pick up’, ha ha get it) when a road friend triggers that negative little voice in your heart:

I’m referring to the car that’s irking us as ‘friend’, just because. # Positive vibes y’know.

  • Friend doesn’t signal…..maybe his lights are broken and he’s on his way to the workshop
  • Friend breaks a little too late going into a junction…..maybe it’s his first time around & unfamiliar with this side of town
  • Friend too close behind you on the speed lane….maybe he is on the way to the hospital with his wife in the passenger seat who is in labour, and he doesn’t know/forgot to use the emergency lights. Just take the left lane, signalling first, and let him pass 🙂
  • Friend tailgating…maybe he hasn’t yet known to estimate correctly proprioception of the car in relation to rest of the road
  • Friend doesn’t give you way….maybe he didn’t see me or saw me too late, or he’s rushing to send his kids to school
  • Friend takes too long to join the roundabout lane…..maybe he’s a new driver and he’s kinda scared. I stick by this: biar lambat asal selamat, take your time dear 🙂 (translation: it’s okay to be slow, as long as we stay safe)
  • Friend doesn’t stop for you on the zebra crossing…..hmmm, this is getting too much now…..haha just kidding, maybe she didn’t see you! Too busy thinking of what to tapau for her parents from the kadai mamak she’s going to. OKAY!
  • Friend changes lane when the road lines are continuous (should not change lanes)…..I only realised about continuous lines when my dad reminded me, and it was months into my driving!

*And at the end of each line, the extension number is: Astaghfirullahal’azim 🙂

So some people just aren’t aware! People who do these driving mistakes could easily be anxious drivers (who you’d sympathise with) instead of bold-I-don’t-care ones (who you’re giving an attitude to…).

And the main reason I could come up with these response lines is because I have experienced them myself! I was the annoying road user haha! So we’re not alone, neither are those drivers you’re getting yourself worked up on.

May Allah protect our hearts from negativity and useless thoughts, our lives and that of our loved ones, and give us the alertness we need to maintain a healthy environment for all.

I’m struggling with the signalling one… What road pet peeves do you have? And how can you justify them? To save yourself the rise in temperature 🙂

Stay safe & give-and-take on the road kids! We all have places to go,
-Saudari A.

Disclaimer: these are the little moments where dismissing them does more good than letting them consume you. Of course, there are times where a broken light actually needs fixing, careless driving from texting, drowsiness, etc, where serious attention is due.

#1 Ar Rahman Ar Rahim & Doa

Assalamu’alaikum everyone 🙂

Notes from Ustaz YM, 6/3/17.

Tapau Gems! (a.k.a TL;DR)

  1. Balasan akhirat (kekal) > balasan dunia (fana)

**Doa iblis (seburuk-buruk makhluk) pun diterima, apa lagi kitani**
Jangan berputus asa… 🙂

Segalanya Allah punya

Tetapi Allah jua yang memaafkan kita, mengampunkan segala dosa. While kitani?

Teringat kisah mengenai nilai mata…

Fir’aun rupanya inda pernah diuji, bersin pun inda pernah! Sehingga dia mengaku diri sebagai tuhan. Astaghfirullah.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how amazing that is…

.

Akhirnya, mari kita sayangi Allah… all that we have and everything that happens, walaupun kitani rasa tani yang melakukannya, semua sebenarnya dari Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Semua atas nama Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim. Sayangi Allah untuk diri sendiri. Do it for yourself.

Barakallahu feekum,
-Saudari A.
